Athlete Fitness

I enjoy keeping fit and am a keen triathlete but over the last few years have had a number of niggling injuries. Gary has been superb at not just treating the symptoms but also finding the cause of the problem, making sure that I am able to maintain my training and achieve my goals. His knowledge and approach are first class and I would recommend him without hesitation.

Shoulder Pains

I went to Excel with a pain in my upper right arm. Gary diagnosed a torn rotator cuff tendon in the shoulder and went to great lengths to keep me comfortable prior to surgery. He recommended an excellent surgeon then post-op he worked tirelessly to get my arm and shoulder moving and strong again. I am now pain-free and have full use of my arm and shoulder as if I had never had the problem.

Searing Pain

Two months before my first London Marathon (2009), training became hampered by the notorious runners’ problem of searing shin pain. GP advice suggested rest and anti-inflammatories…with rest not an option and the latter ineffective, I took up a recommendation to visit Excel physiotherapy. At Excel, my problem was identified and an alternative method of treatment in the form of acupuncture for pain relief together with appropriate muscle balance re-training together with supportive foot strapping’s were suggested. Despite little knowledge and some reservations about the effectiveness of acupuncture, I decided to give it a go. It really seemed to help. In addition to this, the physiotherapist, Gary, was good enough to open his clinic a few minutes earlier than usual, every Saturday up until and including the Marathon (4hrs 10!) to strap my feet, so that I could complete the long runs whilst the shins were healing (and didn’t even charge me for doing so!!) – this alone should exemplify the level of service and commitment on offer!

Nerve Damage

After a vehicle crush accident damaging the nerves in my foot I was left on two elbow crutches which then aggravated an already damaged shoulder and neck. I was recommended Gary Carr who showed patience, skill and continuous dedication in getting me back to walking and driving. His perseverance was 'beyond normal expectations' and I am so grateful to him for giving me my mobility back.

Broken Bone Rehabilitation

I broke my humerus (upper arm) in the snow last February and started physio with Gary 6 weeks later! I have to admit I walked in with trepidation as I was still in pain and had very little movement - it was a great turning point in my recovery as within weeks I had regained almost full mobility. His expertise is second to none and the encouragement and patience shown to me throughout my sessions was brilliant, I was even looking forward to my appointments to show off my improvement week by week!
All the team at Excel Physiotherapy are both professional and very friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the practice - I feared I would be left with a less than functional arm, and the break is now a distant memory!
